Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival your driver will wait for you at the airport. He will bring you to your hotel downtown San Jose where you will spend your first night. Your hotel offers comfortable rooms and is located nearby many great restaurants and shops.

Day 2: Tortuguero National Park

Early in the morning your English speaking Tortuguero guide will pick you up at your hotel. In an air conditioned bus you will drive through the forest of Braulio Carrillo and you might just see the Turrialba Volcano spitting gasses and smoke on a clear day. After one and a half hours’ drive you will arrive at a restaurant where your Costa Rican breakfast is served. The route will continue along big banana fields until you reach the dock. The last part of today’s journey will be by boat, so get your camera’s ready for the wildlife you will encounter on this last leg of the trip.. Upon your arrival at the Laguna Lodge it is lunch time and you can taste the delicious Caribbean dishes at the restaurant. In the afternoon your guide will take you on a tour to the Tortuguero Village and he or she will tell you more about the National Park of Tortuguero and its inhabitants (animals and people).
The rest of the afternoon will free be to relax at the pool, walk at the beach, have a drink at the river bar or stroll around the lodge to find sloths, monkeys, toucans and other beautiful species until dinner will be served.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park Tour

This morning you will experience the jungle waking up in a boat tour through the canals of Tortuguero. Depending the weather circumstances the tour may leave before or after breakfast. No matter the departure time, you will hear and see all animals looking for food and sunlight. Your guide will tour this boat trip so you will learn about the animals in their habitat. In the afternoon your guide will take you on another tour; an easy walk to discover more wildlife and explain you about the abundant nature. All meals are included during your stay, as well as coffee, tea, water and cookies.
The turtle nesting season is from July until September; when visiting during this time of the year, you are able to take a turtle tour for $35 per person

Day 4: On to the Caribbean Coast

It is time to leave the Tortuguero paradise after breakfast. By boat and bus you will head to Guapiles. Here your lunch will be served and you will be picked up by the shuttle to bring you to Puerto Viejo in about three hours. The small village of Puerto Viejo is vibrant and there is always something happening; live music, many great restaurants and a night of dancing underneath the stars with your feet in the Caribbean sand will add to the Caribbean feeling.

Day 5: Overnight at Yorkin Bri Bri

Today you will go on an overnight adventure to be the guest of the Yorkin Indigenous Community. This Bribri village lays in the heart of the Talamanca Mountains and will give you a true authentic and unforgettable experience.

The village can only be reached by boat on the spectacular and wild Yorkin River which is the natural border between Panama and Costa Rica, into La Amistad International Park. You will have the privilege of seeing a Costa Rica that only few know, one of the best places to interact with indigenous people and to explore the pristine rainforest.

Sailing by traditional dugout canoe, which is an incredible experience in itself, you will enjoy the exuberant vegetation as well as Yorkin village, the organic cacao and banana plantations walking on the way to your rural lodge with your local guide. Upon your arrival, you will have a rest to refresh in the little Yorkin tributary and to cross the hanging bridge. After a Bribri stya lunch, for desert, you will learn how to produce chocolate and a delicious chocolate sauce dip organic bananas into. You will also have a lexture on the community project based on nature and culture conservation and environmental education. Your hosts will be very happy to share their knowledge. After dinner, you will end this day of cultural exchange, listening to ancient stories about the Bribri culture. Full of new experiences, you will get to sleep in a traditional cabin of the lodge operated with solar energy.


Day 6: From Yorkin Bri Bri to Cahuita

Today after breakfast, you will be ready to go for a hike through the jungle and learn more about the natural and cultural resources of the Yorkin Community before your return trip to civilization!

You will then spend one night in the little town of Cahuita. Here you will be able to stroll through the town, try some Caribbean food and take a hike trough the beautiful National Park full of wildlife!


Day 7: On to the Volcano

Today your car rental will arrive at your hotel in the morning. After receiving your car, you will head out to La Fortuna, at the slopes of the Arenal volcano in the morning after breakfast. As you come closer to La Fortuna you will see the perfectly shaped active Arenal Volcano from a distance. For the next two nights your hotel will be Arenal Montechiari; a beautiful cozy and small lodge, owned by a Tico Family. You can relax in the pool, stroll around the lodge in search for birds, monkeys and sloths or just enjoy the wonderful view of the majestic Arenal volcano.

Day 8: La Fortuna and surroundings

Today you’ll have the whole day to discover the area. There is a lot to do here: a boat ride over the Cano Negro river, hanging bridges, hot springs, the waterfall of La Fortuna…

Day 9: To the next volcano; Rincon de la Vieja

From the Arenal Volcano you will head to the next volcano; Rincon de la Vieja. You will be staying at the small and charming B&B Aroma de Campo. Located close to the main entrance las pailas of the national park Rincon de la Vieja, Aroma de Campo is the perfect setting for some relaxation and exploration surrounded by forests and ripling rivers. Walk out the doors of the inn to enjoy hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and exploring the beautiful nature, vulcanic activity and wildlife of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano.

Day 10: Rincon de la Vieja

Another day to enjoy all that this beautiful area has to offer. You can decide to make a horseback ride, hike through the National Park or just relax at the hot springs of the volcano…

Day 11: The beautiful beaches of Nicoya

On to your next destination today; Samara Beach. Samara is the perfect place to soak up sun and enjoy beach life in a laid-back atmosphere. The small village of Samara offers a wide sandy beach that spans more than 7 km and is lined by palms. You will find nice restaurants, live music, little shops and many great activities like kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and snorkeling. Day 12: Samara

What better way to spend a day in paradise by kayaking to a tropical island to go snorkeling? We can book this tour option for you to see the marine wildlife of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Another great option is a night tour to see the Olive Ridley Turtle. This turtle is resident of the waters around Samara and lays his eggs here whole year long. You might get lucky and see some baby turtles strolling towards the ocean!

Day 13: The Cloudforest of Monteverde

It is time to leave the beach as you will be heading towards the beautiful cloudforest of Monteverde. When getting close to Monteverde you will have great views of the valley and the coffee plantations. Your hotel for two nights will be Monteverde Inn.
After your arrival you can opt for a coffee tour, or a twilight walk to see the animals that are active after sunset! We can make reservations for your preferred tours.
Santa Elena has some very nice dining options. We love to have dinner in the excellent Treehouse; a memorable dinner in the top of a tree

Day 14: High in the Treetops

Today you can opt for a hanging bridges or canopy tour. Transportation and professional guides are included. The tours will depart early in the morning so you will have most chance of seeing animals. You might even see the Resplendent Quetzal! Your guide will tell you all about the flora and fauna during one of these tours.
In the afternoon you can explore the Monteverde National Park or the Santa Elena reserve. The trails are well marked and lead through the ancient cloud forest; a beautiful piece of preserved nature.

Day 15: To the Pacific Coast

Today you will drive to the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. While on the road, you will pass by Rio Tarcoles. This river is amazing to make a stop as here you can see the largest population of giant crocodiles in Central America!! If you like to, you can even make a boat excursion on this river to see these creatures from up close. We can make a reservation for this tour, which also includes lunch.

Your lodge for the next three nights will be Rio Tico Lodge in Vergel de Punta Mala, close to the Costa Ballena. This very special lodge has nine Safari Tent Bungalows and one hotel room situated in a tropical garden near a crystal-clear river, surrounded by mountainous rainforest.


Day 16: Rio Tico Lodge

You will awaken every morning to the sounds of birds and howler monkeys. Your roomy Safari Tent will be very comfortable with private bathroom, spacious veranda and a beautiful view of the river and surrounding mountains. Enjoy the scenery of the rainforest while bird watching from your veranda or have a refreshing swim in the natural pools of the river; we leave it up to you.

In the rainforest on the other side of the river, you can go hiking on the trails of Montañas de Esperanza; property of our neighbour. You´ll have a chance to see howler monkeys, sloths, small vivid coloured frogs and many different birds. Just a short distance from the Rio Tico Safari Lodge there is a magnificent and a picture perfect waterfall. In addition, beach lovers can visit the pristine and deserted beaches of Playa Tortuga and Las Ventanas, only six kilometres from the lodge.


Day 17: Rio Tico Lodge

The Rio Tico Safari Lodge is situated in between two very special national parks, Marino Ballena and Corcovado. In Marino Ballena National Park you can enjoy everything this rich coast has to offer: whales, dolphins, turtles and brightly colored fish. Corcovado National Park is the habitat of tapirs, toucans, scarlet macaws, coatis, agoutis and the four Costa Rican species of monkeys. National Geographic stated that Corcovado National Park contains the most intense biodiversity in the world.

Day 18: San Jose

Today you will head back to San Jose to spend one more night before your flight back home.

Day 19: Back home

In the morning you will drive to the airport, in time for your flight out and the drop off of your rental car.

Starting off at the Tortuguero Jungle, you will have your own local guide guiding you through this mini amazon. During these days you will see tons of wildlife and will also visit the small village of Tortuguero.

Your next destination will be a different volcano; Rincon de La Vieja. You will be staying in a small B&B from where you will be able to visit the National Park of Rincon de La Vieja on your own.

The next two days, you will have some time to relax at the beautiful beaches of Playa Nicoya. The little and vibrant town of Samara will make you feel at home and will invite you for a dip in the ocean..

When visiting Costa Rica, a stay in the Cloud Forest can not be missed and will be your next destination of your trip. While sleeping in the middle of the natural reserve, you will be surrounded by lots of flora and fauna and will be able to explore right from your lodge.
