Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival your driver will wait for you at the airport. He will bring you to your hotel downtown San Jose where you will spend your first night. Your hotel offers comfortable rooms and is located nearby many great restaurants and shops.

Day 2: On to Corcovado

Today you will receive your 4×4 car rental to leave to the village of Sierpe. In Sierpe you will leave the rental car and follow your trip by small boat to Drake Bay.

The real excitement begins from the very moment of boarding the boat. This trip by speed boat (a bit longer than 1 hour) takes you along the Sierpe River, through the greatest mangrove forest of Costa Rica with wonderful views of mountains with untouched wilderness and possibility to see monkeys, crocodiles, herons, egrets, kingfishers, etc., until you reach the river’s mouth: the Pacific Ocean. The last half an hour of your trip will be by boat, with pelicans, brown boobies, and cormorants, circling above your head you might be accompanied by dolphins, flying fishes and humpback whales!

Drake Bay (got its name due to base of great English seaman and pirate Sir Francis Drake) will be your destination in the beautiful Danta Lodge, where you will stay in very comfortable and beautiful rooms in the middle of the jungle. This is a real Corcovado experience! A wonderful place with overwhelming tropical rain forest, on the edge of Corcovado Nacional Park, with abundant nature and wildlife.

Upon arrival you can stroll around the lodge and for sure you will see a lot of animals and birds. A beautiful sunset will be the end of your day and you can sleep with the sounds of the jungle around you.

Day 3: Corcovado National Park

Today you can choose to go out by boat again to the outer tip of Drake Bay; the Corcovado National Park, according to Nacional Geographic “the biological most intense place in the world”. You will visit one of the biological stations: San Pedrillo, or La Sirena.

Trees up to 60 meters high, amazing scarlet macaws flying around, crocodiles lazy lying on the shore, sounds of the rain forest, howler monkeys (there are four species of monkeys here), toucans and other birds, sloths, anteaters, peccaries, coatis, raccoons, snakes, tapirs, wild cats as puma and jaguar and many others animal and plant species are inhabitants of this wonder of the mother nature. Tours are available by the reception so you can choose whatever you would like to do these 2 days.

Day 4: Isla del Cano

Today you can opt for a tour to Caño Island. It takes about one and half-hours to reach the island, and the trip is an adventure by itself as you can expect to see whales and dolphins on the way.

The Virgin Waters of Cano Island are some of the clearest and bluest of the country. They hide a spectacular marine life, with exotic tropical fish, of which sharks, as well as dolphins and whales, turtles and coral reefs. It was rated as the best underwater adventure diving and snorkeling spot of the world. It is quite a unique experience to watch these magnificent creatures swim by mysterious historical ruins.

Day 5: Manuel Antonio

After breakfast, your guide will bring you back to Sierpe where you will pick up your car again to head to the next destination: Manuel Antonio. Manuel Antonio is a place where you will not get bored. The beaches are breathtaking, The National Park full of wildlife like sloths and monkeys and the sunsets are spectacular!

You will stay at a beautiful bungalow at the Costa Verde Hotel. The bungalow has it’s own kitchen so if you don’t feel like going out for dinner, you can just make something easy here.

Day 6: Manuel Antonio National Park

A full day in Manuel Antonio today. We suggest to visit the National Park and make sure you get there early as this time of year it can be very warm and the animals are most active early morning. The national park opens at 7 am and guides offer their services at the park’s entrance. You don’t need a guide as the trails are very accessible and well-marked. For sure you will see a lot of wildlife! Don’t forget to bring your swim gear as the crystal clear Pacific waters will invite you for a dip!

Day 7: A Sailing Tour maybe?

To finish your vacation with a big bang, you can choose to make sailing & snorkeling trip. You will board a trimaran to spot the dolphins and sometimes even whales, go snorkeling, and food and drinks are included! A great way to spend your afternoon! Surfing, deep sea fishing or diving are other options for water lovers, but if you like to keep it dry you can just relax at the beach.

Day 8: Celeste Tenorio

Today you will leave Manuel Antonio behind as you will head to the pristine Celeste Tenorio. This is one of the most magical places Costa Rica has to offer as it is still quite unknown for most tourists. Situated between the two volcano’s Tenorio and Miravalles, you will find hiking trails that will take you to pristine nature and the breathtaking Celeste rivier and waterfall. According to the local legend, is this where God rinsed his pencils after he colored the sky.

The route will continue along big banana fields until you reach the dock. The last part of today’s journey will be by boat, so get your camera’s ready for the wildlife you can encounter on this last leg of the trip.

Upon your arrival at the Laguna Lodge it’s about lunch time and you can taste the Caribbean dishes at the restaurant after you settled in your comfortable room.

In the afternoon your guide will take you on a tour to the Tortuguero Village and he or she will tell you all about the National Park of Tortuguero and, the sea turtle nesting sites and the culture of this isolated part of Costa Rica.

The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure to relax at the pool, have a drink at the river bar or stroll around the lodge or beach to find sloths, monkeys, toucans and other beautiful species until dinner will be served.

Day 12: Tortuguero National Park

This morning you will experience the jungle waking up while on a boat tour through the canals of Tortuguero. Depending the weather circumstances the tour may leave before or after breakfast. No matter the departure time, you will hear and see all animals looking for food and sunlight.

Your guide will tour this boat trip so you will learn about the animals in their habitat. In the afternoon your guide will take you on a guided walk to spot even more animals, like lizards and birds. All meals are included this day, as well as coffee, tea, water and cookies.
