Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival your driver will wait for you at the airport. He will bring you to your hotel downtown San Jose where you will spend your first night. Your hotel offers comfortable rooms and is located nearby many great restaurants and shops.

Day 2: Tortuguero National Park

Early in the morning your English speaking Tortuguero guide will pick you up at your hotel. In an air conditioned bus you will drive through the forest of Braulio Carrillo and you might just see the Turrialba Volcano spitting gasses and smoke on a clear day. After one and a half hours’ drive you will arrive at a restaurant where your Costa Rican breakfast is served. The route will continue along big banana fields until you reach the dock. The last part of today’s journey will be by boat, so get your camera’s ready for the wildlife you will encounter on this last leg of the trip.. Upon your arrival at the Laguna Lodge it is lunch time and you can taste the delicious Caribbean dishes at the restaurant. In the afternoon your guide will take you on a tour to the Tortuguero Village and he or she will tell you more about the National Park of Tortuguero and its inhabitants (animals and people).
The rest of the afternoon will free be to relax at the pool, walk at the beach, have a drink at the river bar or stroll around the lodge to find sloths, monkeys, toucans and other beautiful species until dinner will be served.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park Tour

This morning you will experience the jungle waking up in a boat tour through the canals of Tortuguero. Depending the weather circumstances the tour may leave before or after breakfast. No matter the departure time, you will hear and see all animals looking for food and sunlight. Your guide will tour this boat trip so you will learn about the animals in their habitat. In the afternoon your guide will take you on another tour; an easy walk to discover more wildlife and explain you about the abundant nature. All meals are included during your stay, as well as coffee, tea, water and cookies.
The turtle nesting season is from July until September; when visiting during this time of the year, you are able to take a turtle tour for $35 per person.

Day 4: Caribbean Coast

It is time to leave the Tortuguero paradise after breakfast. By boat and bus you will head to Guapiles. Here your lunch will be served and your car rental will await you. From here you will drive to the Southern Caribbean beaches; Puerto Viejo in about three hours. The small village of Puerto Viejo is vibrant and there is always something happening; live music, many great restaurants and a night of dancing underneath the stars with your feet in the Caribbean sand will add to the Caribbean feeling.

Day 5: Puerto Viejo

A full day in Puerto Viejo and around. Within a 20-minute drive you will find Cahuita National Park. This park is easy to walk on your own and you will see lots of monkeys, sloths, snakes, raccoons, birds and many more species!
The coast line spreads out from Cahuita all the way to Manzanillo Gandoca; into the Amistad national park. The beaches invite for sunbathing and the different bays each offer another activity; surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, stand up paddling and swimming.

Day 6: Puerto Viejo and surroundings

One of the most fun things to do in Puerto Viejo is to rent a bike and start cycling along the coastline. You are able to rent bikes pretty much everywhere in town for just $5 a day.
Once you start cycling towards Manzanillo, you will pass by the Jaguar Rescue Center. This center is a great place to visit as you will be able to see the animals from very close. They are open 2 times a day; 09:30 and 11:30 for a tour and has an entrance fee cost of $20 per person. By visiting the Jaguar Center, your donation will go directly to caring for our rainforest guests.

Day 7: Sarapiqui Rainforest

From here you will drive to Sarapiqui; the low land rain forest on the Caribbean slope. The drive will take about two hours and there will be a lot to see!
The lodge we have in mind for you is a real birding paradise; Sarapiquis Lodge. Excellent birding, professional guides, a lot of private trails and beautiful surroundings at the Sarapiqui river.

Day 8: Chocoloate Tour

Today you will be taken on a journey through time to discover the story behind de making of chocolate. You will learn how it was made back in the day, how it has been modified through time and how it is prepared today. You will taste the chocolate and the cocoa and learn all about this plant.

Day 9: On to the Volcano

Today you will head out to La Fortuna, at the slopes of the Arenal volcano in the morning after breakfast. As you come closer to La Fortuna you will see the perfectly shaped active Arenal Volcano from a distance. For the next two nights your hotel will be Arenal Volcano Inn; a beautiful lodge and rooms with a private terrace and a great view of the Arenal Volcano. You can relax in the Jacuzzi, swimming pool or in-house Hot Springs, stroll around the lodge in search for birds, monkeys and sloths or just enjoy the wonderful view of the majestic Arenal volcano.

Day 10: Arenal and surroundings

Today you’ll have the whole day to discover the area. There is a lot to do here: a boat ride over the Cano Negro river, hanging bridges, hot springs, the waterfall of La Fortuna…

Day 11: Rincon de la Vieja

From the Arenal Volcano you will head to the next volcano; Rincon de la Vieja. You will be staying at Buena Vista Lodge. This lodge won a price for its sustainability, everything you’ll eat here will come from their own farm. You will find lots of things to do here for the kids; mud bads, hot springs, hanging bridges and of course the longest slide of Central America right through the rainforest. You will have the entrance to this slide included for you and the kids!

Day 12: Buena Vista Lodge

Another day to enjoy all that this beautiful lodge has to offer. You can decide to make a horseback ride, or just relax at the hot springs that are also included during your stay here. Also, don’t forget to check out the Sunset Bar for the most incredible sunsets you will ever see!

Day 13: La Ensenada Lodge

Today you will drive towards the small lodge of La Ensenada located at the Gulf of Nicoya. This lodge will give you a true Costa Rican experience as you will stay at the ranch of a Costa Rican family. This ranch offers horses, bulls, salt pans and sugar & teak plantations. You will have your own wooden cabin with hammock and beautiful view over the bay. The lodge offers a swimming pool and you will have three delicious Costa Rican meals included per day!

Day 14: La Ensenada Lodge

There are many things to choose from today. You can just relax at the pool or go hiking on the different trails. Another option would be to take a Mangrove Boat tour to spot many animals or go horseback riding with the kids!

Day 15: The Cloudforest of Monteverde

It is time to leave the Ensenada Lodge as you will be heading towards the beautiful cloudforest of Monteverde. When getting close to Monteverde you will have great views of the lake, the valley and the coffee plantations. Your hotel for two nights will be Monteverde Inn.
After your arrival you can opt for a coffee tour, or a twilight walk to see the animals that are active after sunset! We can make reservations for your preferred tours.
Santa Elena has some very nice dining options. We love to have dinner in the excellent Treehouse; a memorable dinner in the top of a tree!

Day 16: High in the treetops

Today you will have a hanging bridges tour included as a Natural Mystic Travel gift. Transportation and professional guides are included. The tour will depart early in the morning so you will have most change of seeing animals. You might even see the Resplendent Quetzal! Your guide will tell you all about the flora and fauna during this tour.
In the afternoon you can explore the Monteverde National Park or the Santa Elena reserve. The trails are well marked and lead through the ancient cloud forest; a beautiful piece of preserved nature!

Day 17: The Pacific Coast

Today you will drive to the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. While on the road, you will pass by Rio Tarcoles. This river is amazing to make a stop as here you can see the largest population of giant crocodiles in Central America!! If you like to, you can even make a boat excursion on this river to see these creatures from up close. We can make a reservation for this tour, which also includes lunch. Your hotel for the next three nights will be Hotel Costa Verde. Here you will have your own family bungalow with your own little kitchen, several pools en close excess to the National Park.

Day 18: Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is a place where you will not get bored. The beaches are breathtaking, The National Park full of wildlife like sloths and monkeys and the sunsets are spectacular!
If you like to add some tours we suggest a sailing tour aboard a catamaran to spot the dolphins and sometimes even whales, snorkeling, food and drinks included; a great way to spend your afternoon!
Surfing, deep sea fishing or diving are other options for water lovers, but if you like to keep it dry you can just relax at the beach.

Day 19: Manuel Antonio National Park

Another full day in Manuel Antonio today. We suggest to visit the National Park and make sure you get there early as it can get very warm and the animals are most active early morning. The national park opens at 7 am and guides offer their services at the park’s entrance. You don’t need a guide as the trails are very accessible and well-marked. You will be able to see a lot of wildlife! Don’t forget to bring your swim gear as the crystal clear Pacific waters will invite you for a dip!

Day 20: Back to San Jose

Waking up in Manuel Antonio with the sounds of the howler monkeys. After your breakfast you will drive back to San Jose where you will stay one more night at Sleep Inn hotel, before your flight back home.

Day 21: Flying back Home

At time for your flight, you will drive towards the airport to drop off your rental car and hop on your flight back home…

The package starts off in San Jose, from where you will head to your first destination; Tortuguero. Tortuguero is well known for its diversity in flora and fauna so you won’t be disappointed if you want to see lots of animals! From Tortuguero it’s a beautiful boat ride to Guapiles. Here you will receive your car rental to drive down to one of our favorite destinations located on the Caribbean Side of Costa Rica; Puerto Viejo.
After three nights here, you will drive towards the volcano with a stop in between at the rainforest of Sarapiqui. Here you will learn how to make chocolate while sleeping in the middle of the forest.
From here it is a short drive to La Fortuna where you will find the majestic volcano of Arenal. Lots of great activities to do around here; visit the hot springs, the national park or maybe the waterfall of La Fortuna.
The next destination will be another volcano; Rincon de la Vieja. The lodge we have selected here, is one of our favorites for families with kids. The Buena Vista Lodge is an absolute paradise for your children. Horseback riding, hanging bridges, hot springs, canopy tours and the longest waterslide in Central America going through the rainforest!
From the Buena Vista Lodge, you will head to another very special location to stay with a Costa Rican family; La Ensenada Lodge. At this lodge you will become part of the Costa Rican ranch life while overlooking the beautiful golf of Nicoya..
Your next destination will be the cloud forest of Monteverde, an absolute favorite amongst nature lovers. From here you will head to your last destination, the beach of Manuel Antonio.
