Day 1: Arrival and onward to Sarapiqui

Upon arrival your driver will wait for you at the airport and a private transfer will bring you to Sarapiqui lowland rainforest in about 2 hours.

Day 2: Selva Verde

Today you can decide the hour of your first Costa Rica guided birding tour; either around 5 AM sunrise or around 4:30 PM, as these hours the birds are most active. Selva Verde offers a lot of trails and hanging bridges as well so besides your guided birding tour you can wander about and encounter a lot of birds like hummingbirds, oropendulas, toucans, aracari’s, tanagers, kiskadees and a lot more. Your guide will tell you the inns and outs about all birds and will teach you tricks how to recognize them; a great first birding day!

Day 3: Cano Negro

A private transfer to Cano Negro today, a wonderful place and not-to-miss on a birdingt tour! A lot of aquatic birds nest here in the wetland reserve.

Day 4: Birding Boat Tour

An early morning guided birding tour for you today; by boat, through the Cano Negro Reserve. Beware for many kinds of egrets, anhingas, herons, cormorants, kingfishers as well as woodrails, ducks, woodpeckers and trogons, to name only a few.

Day 5: Arenal

On to your next destination today; Arenal La Fortuna Arenal Volcano. Explore the volcano and the beautiful surroundings as the lodge offers a private rainforest reserve in which trails leads along rivers to waterfalls, and in this dense forest you might see owls, trogons, toucans, tinnamous, guans, chacalacas, vultures and a lot more. And after your birding walk  you can enjoy the Jacuzzi, the pool and the excellent view of the Arenal Volcano.

Day 6: Birding & Hanging Bridges Walk

An early morning guided birding walk for you today; keep your ears and eyes open as the guide will point out birds you might have missed! In the afternoon another guided walk is plannend for you; a guided tour on the Arenal Hanging Bridges to see a lot of wildlife and birds for sure!

Day 7: Hacienda la Ensenada

The drive today heads to the Palo Verde area, at the Pacific Coast opposite of the Nicoya Peninsula. Here is your place to stay for the next 2 nights to ecxplore Palo Verde, the mangrocve, Chiora Island and for sure a lot of birding to do!

Day 8: Isla Chira and Palo Verde

A boat ride today, through the Palo Verde mangrove and to Isla Chira. A lot of aquatic birds you will see for sure like the fregat birds, pelicans, sandpipiers, whimbrels, egrets, herons, spoonbills, storks, osprey, plovers and sterns. Keep your binoculars ready!

Day 9: Osa; Piedras Blancas

Today your private transfer will bring you to the Piedras Blancas National Park at the Osa Corridor; a true nature and birding paradise! Get ready to see Scarlet Macwas, Jacamar, puffbirds, motmots, cuckoos, parrots, doves, falcons, and you might even see the Potoo.

Day 9: Piedras Blancas National Park

Your guide will accompany you today on a tour to see even more birds and he will inform you about this very special eco system at the Osa Peninsula.

Day 11: San Gerardo de Dota

Time to leave the Osa after breakfast and a private transfer brings you to one more Costa Rica destination, last but not least; San Gerardo de Dota where you have a big chance of seeing the Respendent Quetzal.

Day 12: Resplendent Quetzal

Another early morning guided walk included for you with the specialized San Gerardo de Dota birding guide. In search for the Quretzal but for sure you will also be amazed with the big variety of anteaters, hummingbirds and tanagers you will find in this beautiful cloud forest. Your lodge will also offer a nice spa and Jacuzzi to get some rest and leisure time before flying home the next day.

Day 13: Back to San Jose airport

Your Costa Rica Birding trip has come to an end; a private transfer will bring you to the San Jose airport in time for your flight.

In the Guanacaste tropical dry forest and the Palo  Verde mangroves you will be treated with even more species; the rosate spoonbills nest here, as well as the fregat birds, a lot of brown pelicans and kingfishers and ospreys can also be seen frequently. A walk through the forest will high likely reveal woodpeckers, mot mots, ant eaters and more.
